15th October was my birthday and here’s my outfit of the day for my special day!
I wanted the overall look to be sleek and stylish with only a dash of fun. That’s why I kept the look mainly monochromatic and only used contrasting colors on my accessories. I also wanted to achieve this look using only my fav-fav colors – Red, Black and White.
I chose to wear a Black & White, diamond-pattern, blouse that I bought from Max. The top has a round neck, with just a touch of ‘V’ in the center. There is a pretty little metallic pipe on the ‘V’ that adds a nice look to the top. The sleeves are short and have a piece of black bead attached on a strip.
The top is loose at the bust and fits tightly around the hip with elastic.Personally, this is my favorite kind. It gives me freedom of movement while ensuring that it stays perfectly in place, no matter how much I jump around. 😛
I wore a size S/86cms.
For the bottom, I chose skinny, black jeans. Your basic pair of jeans, nothing extraordinary.
Hair and Nails:
My hair is generally very curly, right from the roots. But I wanted a sleeker look for this outfit. So I blow-dried my hair straight. Not entirely though. Just the roots and middle shaft. I curled the ends of my hair, so it gave a beautiful bounce and lift, while being simultaneously silky straight.
For the hair accessories, I decided to go out on a limb here. I picked up a red hairband. The hairband was plain and didn’t have any embellishments. The stark contrast of red against black hair, added that fun element I wanted. 😉
I could have done red nails, but I felt it would be too overwhelming. It could tip the balance of the final look, over to the gaudy side. So I did the most classic, most favored, and most loved manicure of all time – the French Manicure.
I am so happy I did this by myself at home! 😀 When I get the time I’ll write a blog post on how to do a super simple but super effective French manicure at home.
Pssst… I even got ‘wow’ compliments from my girl at the parlour, so yayyyy for beautiful French nails at home.
Like every Indian girl, black kohl or kajal is mandatory for me – anyday. So even on my birthday I lined my upper and lower waterlines with my reliable Maybelline Colossal Kajal, Black.
To add a little bit of shimmer, I used the Maybelline Colossal Kohl Smoked Silver. It is a beautiful silver-toned kajal, true to it’s name. I used it liberally on my upper eyelid and created a wide arc.
Then I used my trustworthy Maybelline New Lasting Drama Gel Liner just to tight line my upper eyelid.
Yes, I’m a huge fan of Maybelline when it comes to eye make-up. I find that they are hypoallergenic and last the longest compared to other eye make-up. Even on oily lids!
How can I forget lips? They were the highlight of the makeup. It’s no wonder I chose red lipstick coupled with red lip gloss from, maybelline again 😉 – Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss, Gleaming Grenadine to complement my red hairband. This also added color to my face in the otherwise plain look.
I strongly suggest that every girl carry a red lipstick in her vanity case. It’s just a staple in any make-up look. It instantly adds color to your face and gives a very pretty shade to your lips.
For other accessories like earrings, bangles and rings, I used simple ones. The earrings were tiny drops with a silvery heart-shape. It well really well with the white top and the silver on my eyes. Yet it didn’t overpower the look.
For finger rings, I wore a simple red stoned ring and an everyday ring. And for bangles I wore the simple plastic red bangles. Simple yet elegant.
My shoes of the day were the high heels that I love. They are 3″ high heels with a strap for the heel, from catwalk.
And finally for the handbag, my favorite red handbag with a single handle.
